The Revolutionary Nature of the Kingdom of Heaven
“Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.” Matthew 5:3
For those who followed some of David Asscherick‘s speaking engagements between the fall of 2010 and the spring of 2011, you may have noticed a specific theme in his messages. The theme, in my poor attempt to simplify, is the radical and revolutionary nature of Christ’s first coming; however, it goes far deeper than that and touches on the the character of God and the kingdom of heaven. That is why I entitled this post, this compilation of messages, The Revolutionary Nature of the Kingdom of Heaven.
My introduction to the theme was during the Sunday Commitment address at the 2010 GYC conference in Baltimore, MD. In early March 2011, Asscherick, co-director of Light Bearers and co-founder of ARISE, gave a four-part devotional presentation at the world headquarters of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA, for the Week of Spiritual Emphasis (aka Week of Prayer). I stumbled across these videos in October or November in the archives of the Adventist Review and now Revival and Reformation has made them available via YouTube. Around that same time, 3ABN was re-airing broadcasts from the 2010 ASI meeting, particularly the keynote address by Asscherick. More recently, during a lively discussion at the fellowship meal just last Sabbath, a small group of us discussed this very theme, and a fellow church member and friend pointed me to the five-part presentation that Asscherick gave at Oakwood University.
The entire series of presentations is insightful and thought-provoking. I felt impressed to assemble as many as possible here for others to watch and/or listen to. Though there is some overlap across the presentations, each one is worth the time.
